East Coast Road (ECR Chennai) is a two-lane highway in Tamil Nadu. It is an another road running parallel to OMR Road. This ECR road was formed in 1998 by interlinking and improving a series of small village roads. It is now being partially widened to four-lane way from Chennai to Mamallapuram. This ECR connects the fishing villages along the coast of Bay of Bengal.It is an well known important road corridor in Tamil Nadu. It connects Chennai with Cuddalore through Pondicherry. Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation (TNRIDC) maintains this highway through Government of Tamil Nadu. The East Coast Road (ECR) is a combination of SH-49, NH-332A,and NH-32. The ECR is officially known as Mutthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Road. It is a two-lane highway (now being partially widened to four lanes from Chennai to Mamallapuram) in Tamil Nadu, India, built along the Bay of Bengal coast .
